An organization benefitting Bulgarian Orphans

Pizza Party and Kids’ Drawings: Loosli family kids and friends

The first week of December my kids hosted what they called an "Orphan Party" to raise money for One Heart Bulgaria. On the invitation we explained a bit about One Heart Bulgaria's needs, listed the website in case anyone wanted to know more, suggested a donation amount, and offered the idea that kids who wanted to come to the party could earn their donation by doing work for their parents or neighbors (we gave the invitation out about ten days in advance of the party so they'd have time to earn some money).  My children worked very hard doing extra chores around the house, and my oldest did a few chores for neighbors and relatives. Many of the other children who came did the same.  In the end, my kids, Ashton (6), Isaac (5), and Eliza (3) raised $170 from their little friends who came to draw pictures for orphans, watch a slide show of orphan pictures, and have fun eating pizza and playing games.  I explained that they were eating good food and having fun and giving money so that kids in Bulgaria could also eat better food and have more fun—they really got into that idea.  We had ten kids come and it was great to see all these cute little five and six year olds really grasping a little about how blessed they are and how much other children in the world need their help.
